About Us

Active Kids Academy is excited to announce that we have teamed up with Karate Kids Canada to host a multi-activity March break camp at Fitness by the Lake in Port Credit. We are also hosting a multi-activity summer camp taking place at both Fitness by the lake in Port Credit and Watts School of Dance located at Britannia and Kennedy *No Karate experience necessary.

It is the goal of Active Kids Academy to keep our campers engaged and excited throughout the day while they learn a series of basic martial arts moves, make new friends and spend time being creative in solo and group activities.

Organized and lead by Shannon Riddell, a proud Mom of a handsome and energetic 7 year old boy and owner of a Mississauga home daycare. Having completed her Royal Academy of dancing (R.A.D) ballet examinations in her younger years, her dance background was the inspiration for her vision for getting kids to be excited about physical activity! Currently Shannon also holds the title of Program Manager with Karate Kids Canada in the Peel District School Board and is an assistant instructor to the Martial Arts lead in many schools. In her previous job, Shannon was the Regional Director of Playzone Interactive Youth Fitness, successfully running numerous Playzone facilities across Ontario along with free events for the community.  Playzone's positive fitness experience for children included a number of programs such as dance classes, sports classes, karate classes, swimming lessons, and camps.

“I knew the next natural step for me was to use my extensive experience to start multi activity camps, providing children with a wonderful experience where they use both their creativity and engage in non competitive physical activity. Not everyone can say they love what they do, but I am blessed enough to say I do and have been lucky enough to work with children for the last 12 years. Each and everyone of them inspire me to be the best I can be and to keep delivering the best experience possible when they are under my watch.”  - Shannon Riddell
